Obituary for Harley Dunning
Harley C. “H.C.” Dunning, 58, of East Palatka, passed away Wednesday, May 11, 2016 at the Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville following a brief illness. A native of Pensacola, H.C. was a lifelong resident of Putnam County. He was a 1976 graduate of Palatka South High School. H.C. was a master electrician and had owned and operated Summerville Electric since 1981. He had also previously worked with Bob Walls and with Preston Electric. H.C. had expanded his business to include working with several municipalities in North Florida in installation and repair of traffic signals. In his leisure time, he had enjoyed fishing, hunting, spending time at the beach and on the water on his seadoo. H.C. had a big heart for animals and loved his beloved canine “Sophie” and feline “Tigger”.
He was preceded in death by his father, James S. Dunning, Sr., a brother, Williams S. “Billy” Dunning and his favorite canine “Sugar”.
H.C. is survived by his wife of 38 years, Treva S. Dunning of East Palatka, 2 sons, Jason Dunning of Fort Myers and Jeremy Dunning (Alyssa) of Valdosta, GA, a daughter, Rebecca “Becca” Dunning of Palatka, his mother, Joyce Dunning Snyder and step-father, Earl “Bill” Snyder of Palatka, a brother, James S. “Jim” Dunning, Jr. (Connie) of Salt Springs, numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and other extended family.
Services celebrating H.C.’s life will be at 2:00 P.M. Sunday, May 15, 2016 at Christ Independent Methodist Church with Pastor Michael Hudson officiating. Burial will follow at Palatka Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be Saturday from 6-8 P.M. at Johnson-Overturf Funeral Home in Palatka.
