Obituary for Wayne Day

Wayne Eugene Day, 67, of Palatka, passed away Thursday, October 8, 2015 at his home following an extended illness. A native of Moultrie, Georgia, he resided in Putnam County since 1950 coming from Moultrie. He served as a Sergeant in the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam Era. In 1975, he received his AA Degree from St. Johns River Junior College. Wayne retired from Georgia Pacific in 2003 after 25 years working in the Power and Recovery Department. He was a Baptist and a supporter of the Wounded Warrior Project. Wayne enjoyed the outdoors, riding in the woods and water skiing.
He was preceded in death by his parents, James E and Velma Day.
Wayne is survived by his wife of 48 years, Carolyn Pipkins Day, a daughter, Cynthia R. Jordon and husband Donny Ray, a son, Charles W. Day and fiancé Missy Preston Strunk, grandchildren, Dreyton Wayne Day, Brianna Renee Jordon and Tyson Perry Jordon, future grandchildren, Taylor Rayne Strunk, Chase Alan Strunk and Jarrett Wade Strunk, brother and sister-in-law, James E. Day, Jr. and wife Cathy, brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Sonny and Margaret Pipkins, sister-in-law, Barbara Fussell, nieces and nephews, Marlin Day, Marcia Day, James M. Day, Kelley Murphy, Jason Pipkins, JoEllen Wilder and Coy Fussell.
Services will be at 11:00 A.M. Monday, October 12, 2015 at Johnson-Overturf Chapel in Palatka with Bro. Sonny Pipkins officiating. Burial will follow at Palatka Memorial Gardens with the U.S. Air Force conducting military honors. Visitation will be Sunday from 5-7 P.M. at Johnson-Overturf Funeral Home in Palatka.
Flowers are gratefully accepted or memorial donations may be sent to Hospice of Citrus and the Nature Coast, 927 S. Hwy 19, Palatka, FL 32177.
