Obituary for Mae Wood
Mae L. Wood, 96, of Spring Hill and formerly of San Mateo, passed away Friday, May 15, 2015 at home surrounded by her loving family following an extended illness. A native of Douglas, Georgia, she was a long-time resident of Putnam County where she had owned and operated Mae’s Flowers in Palatka and prior to that had owned and operated Woods Grocery located on Madison Street and then at the Y in Palatka. Mae had been a member of the San Mateo Church of God and later a member of the Palatka Church of God as well as the Rebecca Club, the Garden Club, the Order of Eastern Star and the Art League of Palatka.
She was preceded in death by her husband Shelton James Wood and a grandson, John Wood as well as numerous other family members.
Mae is survived by a son, Shelton Eugene “Gene” Wood and wife Louise of Spring Hill, 2 daughters, Bonnie E. Ward and husband Bill of Deltona and Linda F. Robinson of Spring Hill, a step-brother, Leon McKinnon of Crescent City, 8 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren and 9 great-great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 11:00 A.M. Wednesday, May 20, 2015 at Johnson-Overturf Chapel in Palatka with Dr. Shelton E. Wood officiating. Entombment will follow at Palatka Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Wednesday from 10:00 A.M. until the time of services.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made in Mae’s memory to HPH Hospice, 12107 Majestic Blvd., Hudson, FL 34667.
