Obituary for Lois Carnes
Lois Jean Carnes, 81, of Palatka, passed away Saturday, January 4, 2014 at Palatka Health Care Center following an extended illness. A native of South Port, North Carolina, she resided in Putnam County since 1950 moving here from South Port. Lois owned and operated a day care center for over 20 years. She had also worked at Moore’s Drug Store, Assistant Manager at the Diana Shop, Kentucky Fried Chicken and at Belk’s at the Palatka Mall. Lois was a member of the Palatka First Church of God where she had kept the nursery for years. Lois also enjoyed fishing, gardening, reading, cooking and enjoyed sitting and looking at the beautiful waterfront in South Port, NC.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Doyle H. “Buddy” Carnes, her parents Forney and Bessie Hickman and a granddaughter, Rachel Tilton.
She is survived by 2 daughters, Lynn Minor (Mike) of San Mateo and Gail West (Lee) of Palatka, 3 sons, Howard Carnes (Tammi) of Satsuma, Larry Carnes (Leianne) of Old Town and Ronnie Robbins of Palatka, a sister, Jeanette Knox (Elbert) of Bolivia, NC, 14 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 1:00 P.M. on Thursday, January 9, 2014 at Johnson-Overturf Chapel in Palatka with Rev. John Miles officiating. Burial will follow at Paran Cemetery in Grandin. Visitation will be Wednesday from 6-8 P.M. at Johnson-Overturf Funeral Home in Palatka.
