Obituary for Julia Sykes

Julia M. Sykes, 87, of Fleming Island and formerly of Palatka, passed away Wednesday, June 12, 2013 at The Terrace at Fleming Island following an extended illness. A native of Smithfield, North Carolina, she resided in Clay County the past 2 years, moving there from Palm Coast. She had lived in Palatka from 1990 – 1995 moving there from Norfolk, Virginia. While residing in Palatka, Julia was a member of the First Baptist Church of Palatka, the Palatka Womens Golf Association and the Duplicate Bridge Club in St. Augustine. She loved to read and spend quality time with her family.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Otha Munden and Ila Mae Woodall Munden and her husband, Earl H. Sykes.
She is survived by 3 sons, Earl H. Sykes, Jr and wife Mary Barbara of Norfolk, VA, William S. Sykes and wife Ann of Portsmouth, VA, Thomas L. Sykes and wife Linda of Palatka, a daughter, Katherine E. Sykes of Palm Coast, 2 brothers, Thomas C. Munden and wife Sally and James E. Munden and wife Jane, all of Winston-Salem, NC, 6 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 11:00 A.M. Friday, June 14, 2013 at Johnson-Overturf Funeral Home in Palatka with Bro. Harry Varnadoe officiating. Interment will follow at Palatka Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends Friday at the funeral home from 10:00 A.M. till the time of services at 11:00.
