Obituary for Rome Glisson
Rome "R.L" Glisson, age 84, of Palatka, died Thursday, December 15, 2011 at Shands at UF in Gainesville. He was born in Miami and was a life-long resident of Palatka. He was a 70 year member of First Presbyterian Church in Palatka and a U.S. Navy Veteran of World War II. He was a member of the Palatka Men's Golf Association and the Marsh Creek Men's Golf Association in St. Augustine. He owned and operated a car dealership for several years. R.L. loved playing golf and enjoyed fishing, hunting and gardening. He was preceded in death by his son, Rick Glisson and a brother, K.B. "Buddy" Glisson.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Elosie Taylor Glisson of Palatka; grandson, Tyler Glisson of Gainesville; best friend, Daryll Futch of Palatka; nephew, Mike Glisson of East Palatka and a niece, Angie Freeman of St. Augustine Beach.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM Saturday, December 17th at the Johnson-Overturf Funeral Home in Palatka with Pastor Bob Scott officiating. Burial will follow in Oak Hill West Cemetery with the U.S. Navy conducting military honors. Friends may call Saturday from 10:00 -11:00 AM at the funeral home. In celebration of his life a memorial video will be shown.
