ROBERT C. McGOWAN Robert Charles McGowan, age 91, of Palatka, passed away Friday December 19, 2008 at Emory L. Bennett Memorial Veterans Nursing Home in Daytona Beach. Robert was born December 24, 1916 in Denver, Colorado to James & Marjorie McGowan. He spent his early years in Denver as an airplane mechanic. He had been a resident of Palatka since 1985, coming from Cocoa Beach and St. Augustine. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran of World War II. After leaving the Air Force, he worked for Hawthorne Aircraft in Hawthorne, California and then moved to Cocoa Beach where he worked for Martin Marietta building the 4 Titan Missiles. Robert was a Christian man and enjoyed reading his Bible. His hobbies were camping, playing his organ, playing golf and watching car races and golf tournaments on TV. He will be sorely missed. He is survived by a daughter, Lucy Britan, grandson, Robert Cassels, granddaughter, Tina Foster; special friends, Margo Seaney, and Joe Martinez and his daughters, Rebekah and Sarah. Memorial services will be held at a later date. Johnson-Overturf Funeral Home in Palatka is in charge of arrangements.
