BLAINE ELWOOD JONES
Blaine Elwood Jones, age 74, of Mills River, NC, formerly of Palatka, went to be with our Lord and Savior, July 24, 2010 after a brief battle with pancreatic cancer. Blaine was a loving husband, father and grandfather who was a gentle and quiet mentor, advisor, and friend. He was married to the love of his life, Nelda for 48 years, celebrating every day together and raising three children. Blaine was preceded in death by his daughter, Jennifer Leigh Jones, whom he missed deeply, having died at the young age of 23. Blaine is survived by his devoted wife, Nelda; 2 sons, Greg Jones & wife, Andrea of Tampa and Christopher Jones & wife, Lynne of Los Angeles, California. He loved, enjoyed, and was very proud of his grandchildren who loved and respected him: Riley, Gavin, Lauren, Kristin, Sarah, and Michael. Blaine was born in Jacksonville April 2, 1936, the son of Abram Ogilvie and Mildred Rhodes Jones. His mother passed away when he was seven years old and Blaine was raised by his grandparents, Irving Elwood and Deborah Ogilvie Jones in Callahan, Florida. He attended school in Callahan and graduated from Bordentown Military Institute in Bordentown, New Jersey after which he enlisted in the U.S. Army. Having completed his military service in Germany, Blaine attended Southern Technical Institute in Marietta, Georgia where he received his degree in Electrical Engineering. He was proud to work with Florida Power & Light from which he retired after 30 years of service. He and his wife, Nelda lived and raised their family in Palatka for 28 years, where they were active members of First Baptist Church in Palatka. While a member at First Baptist, Blaine served as a Deacon and Sunday school teacher. Blaine was most recently an active member and volunteer at Biltmore Baptist Church in Asheville, N.C. Funeral services will be held 11:00 A.M. Wednesday July 28th at the First Baptist Church in Palatka with Dr. Richard Eley officiating. Burial will take place at 3:00 P.M. Wednesday at Jones Cemetery in Callahan, Florida. Friends may call Tuesday from 6:00 � 8:00 P.M. at the Johnson-Overturf Funeral Home in Palatka. In celebration of his life a memorial video will be shown.
