To Carolyn and Nicks family,
Once again a write because I feel Nick would want me to let the family know this. And Thank God for THIS guestbook to let the family know what's happening. 1st let me apologize beforehand, because I know at a time like this, complaints are the last thing you want to hear. Let me say Nick would NOT want this OBO webmaster uncompassionate petty stuff going on toward his family! Nick gave 10 years or more of his life to the OBO Opry. The LEAST they could do at a time like this is have compassion! I have tried to leave a condolence at OBO guestbook, at the time I didn't know this place existed, otherwise would have just left it here, so I left a condolence at the OBO website. They would NOT post it for the family. However the webmaster replied to me, had the nerve to say it would not be posted because it advertised my sons death. All I said was Nick was there for my son 5 years ago. My statement was to GLORIFY NICK, and the good man he was. This is HIS life, why is this webmaster Ken Rider being this way, and so heartless at a time like this? I'm sure he must have lost a love one, and should know this is not a time to be so uncompassionate? I think its a sad day for the Opry to have a webmaster that represents the place to be acting this way! To make it worse he replies to me. He said he would not post my condolence cause it mentioned my son. So I sent another NOT mentioning my son, even though Nick was there for me when I lost my baby boy. Do you know he would not just post a condolence, as I said in last one, that my sympathies go out to Nicks family at this time, and God Bless, he is a free bird now! Do you know they will NOT post that, and now he's blocked me from using the guestbook to leave comments much less condolences!!! I am appalled, and to the family, if I were you, I would let the owners know that this is NOT RIGHT, and uncalled for behavior! I even had a lady Joanne email me and blast me! Saying my comments was uncalled for at a time like this. (what is wrong with this world?) Well isn't what they are doing to me TOTALLY uncalled for? And not only me, but to the family of Nick? They started this unthinkable uncompassionate behavior! Thank God they can't stop me from letting the family know what has occurred! Thank God for Johnson Overturf Funeral guestbook! If you the family of Nick ever see Earl/ Estelle or Ken rider, please ask them why they would attack me, or anyone from leaving a simple condolence of love care and compassion at a time like this, why would I be BLOCKED and treated in this fashion? Again God Bless Nicks family! And I'm so sorry to lay this on you guys! Nick loved me as a friend, otherwise he would have not been there for me, and even invited me in his my space as a friend. Nick was my friend. Apparently these people that won't post block my condolences aren't his friends. Your a free bird Nick!

I'd like to say to the family of Nick, that I do apologize sending my condolence below. This was not the time nor the place to air my OBO differences. But I do NOT apologize to anyone for the behavior of the webmaster and the owners of OBO that would NOT allow my condolences to the family of Nick on their OBO website. I feel the family of Nick needed to know that we all loved him, and afterall it WAS the OBO Opry that he gave 10 years of his wonderful talents to! The least they could have done at a time like this was to show some compassion and not biased behavior! I am so glad this guestbook was available to let the family and all know what a wonderful human being Nick really was, and how he was there for me when I lost my son only 5 years ago! I hope the family of Nick and others understand? If not, I am truley very sorry. There was no other way to get my message to the family, and I probably won't see them anymore. Yes, Nick is a "freebird" now. God Bless him and his family at this time of their sorrow and grief!

Nick was a great guy, and was a fine human being and fellow musician. He was loved by everyone! I knew Nick before this OBO place. Nick was there for me and my family 5 years ago when I lost my son so tragically! He announced my loss on the OBO microphone. I will never forget him for doing that kind deed! he took the time to email me and let me know! I will also announce to everyone of what a great person he was on the Florida Sunshine Opry microphone! Also at the restaurant I perform at nightly. I was there at the funeral today, and it was such a very nice turnout. Nick had alot of friends that loved him so. It was so packed, I had to sit in the extra room in back where they video feed the main area. That to me, meant he was well loved and had lots of friends. I am saddened on this day of Nicks departure and funeral that webmaster Ken Rider who represents the Orange Blossom Opry would not allow my condolences to go out to the family. This is what I sent to the family, and it was deemed inappropriate by the webmaster Ken Rider from the orange Blossom Opry, and deleted:

To the family of Nick and OBO Opry. My deepest sympathy goes out to all who loved Nick. Nick was there for me when my son died 5 years ago. He was a good man. he announced it to everyone, little did we know Nick would get his time. I believe he is with the Lord now and my son has welcomed him home. God Bless you Nick! We love you my friend! And a special heartfelt sympathy to his family

I am glad I got to go to the funeral and personally give my respects to Nicks family! Its a sad shame on such a sad day like today that some webmaster has to have issues. Can't they give one day of respect and mourning a rest? Thanks to Darryl Thomas, and Grover for giving me the information, allowing me to see Nick one last time, and my brother Scott for letting me know what funeral home he was at. Again, my deepest condolences to Nicks family. And I am so sorry to bring this up, but thought you should know, how uncompassionate some people are at a time like this! The webmaster Ken Rider did this once before when I left condolences to Lori Gill. I am glad I saw Lori at the funeral, as I let her know I sent condolences as well! Lori did an excellent job singing and her part of the eulogy. Everyone was very nice. I just wanted Nicks family to know that at a time like this, people should put whatever issues they have from the past away! Its sad Buddy Davis and Earl Benson wouldn't give me the time of day? But it was nice to see everyone else, and the care they showed there! God Bless you Brother Nick. Your a "Freebird" at last! Aeeeeeeeeeeee!!!!

My thoughts and prayers are with you, Aunt Bobbie and Kenny. I was sorry not to be able to be with you at the funeral. I always felt close to Donald. We shared a music talent although his talent far outdid mine. He was like a brother for many years as we grew up. I loved him a lot and thought he was very special. He will be missed by all who loved him. God bless you all at this time.

Nick was an excellent musician, a superb human being, a wonderful father, and probably the funniest individual that I've had the honor of befriending. He was truly a gift - a pearl of great price.  However, any words we leave here today constitute but a feeble attempt to condense Nicks life into a tangible quantity that will help assuage our grief at his passing.  None-the-less, he had a profound impact on the lives of us who knew him and his influence will no doubt dwell in our hearts, minds, and spirits until we finally reunite with him in the presence of the Divine. Clearly, our lives will suffer untold diminishment from his passing. Yet, in a larger sense, we must gain solace from the knowledge that Nick will dwell for all eternity in a glorious place of absolute fulfillment, the majesty of which we can scarcely imagine. Those of us who were fortunate enough to work with Nick will forever treasure the time spent in that association, for he has left a deep watermark on our lives.  Perhaps this is the greatest gift to us all. Goodbye my old friend.
