James A. Brock
 

James A. Brock, 64, of Crystal River and formerly of Palatka, passed away, Wednesday, Oct. 21, 2009, at his home.

He was born May 11, 1945, in Montezuma, Ga., and had lived in Crystal River for the last six years, moving there from Palatka. He was a retired supervisor with F&H Contractors of Crystal River. Mr. Brock was a 1963 graduate of Palatka High School, where he received the Hancock Award. He served in the Florida National Guard, was a Shriner and a Mason. He was a member of the Morocco Temple and the Provost Guard. Mr. Brock also was a member of the Moose Lodge, the Fraternal Order of Eagles, the Elks Lodge and the Putnam County Jaycees.
 

He was preceded in death by his mother, Mrs. Evelyn Rivenburgh.

He is survived by his wife, Cheryl Brock of Crystal River; his father, James C. Brock and Shirley Nixon of Palatka; a son, Mark Brock of Margate; a daughter, Ashley Gibson and husband, Brent of Palatka; a stepdaughter, Lesley VanZant; his mother-in-law, Mrs. Elaine Chaykovsky of Crystal River; two sisters, Anne Lawson and husband, Johnny of Palatka and Elaine Cope and husband, DeWayne of Ocala; seven grandchildren; one great-grandson and three nieces.

Funeral services were held 4 p.m., Sunday, Oct. 25, at Johnson-Overturf Funeral Home in Palatka.

I was a graduate in the class of '63 with James.  What an outstanding and (good looking) friend he was to all.  I have very fond memories of him and my school annuals were signed by James with the nicest notes.  I am very sorry to hear of his passing.
